Sponsorships
Put your name near the top of a page in The County
An example only, for display purposes. This spot is not for sale. It shows the large card an exclusive or title sponsor has near the top of a page.
Sponsorships on Aroostook.com are open only to businesses and organizations in Aroostook County, Maine. A sponsorship puts your name, your logo and a short message of your own near the top of the page you choose, for a full year, with a link to your website.
How sponsorships work
The basics
- You sponsor a page. Almost any page can be sponsored, even if you do not see a banner on it. You choose the page: a community, a region, or an activity guide such as paddling or hunting. You tell us which page you would like to sponsor and we will contact you about the sponsorship.
- Your card goes near the top. It reads “This page generously sponsored by” followed by your name, with your logo and a short message in your own words. A button links to your website and opens it in a new tab.
- It lasts one year. The year begins on the day we receive your payment. Your card appears on the page as soon as we have received and recorded your payment.
- Aroostook County only. Sponsorships are open only to businesses and organizations in Aroostook County, Maine. If yours is based outside the county, you can still ask, but we must authorize the request before any payment is taken.
- We approve every card. We check the name, logo and message before they appear, so every sponsor card on the site is one visitors can trust.
Featured listings
A featured listing is a business listing that stands out from the others. It is for any business in the directory, and it is separate from sponsoring a page. Here is the difference. These two are examples only, for display purposes.

- A featured listing has a Featured tab and a highlighted card, so it catches the eye wherever it appears.
- Featured listings are not moved above the others. Every list stays in the same order for everyone, which keeps the directory fair and keeps page sponsors in the spotlight.
- A featured business can also show up to four photos on its listing (coming soon).
Exclusive sponsorship
You are the only sponsor on the page. Your card sits near the top of the page, below any quick facts and weather, in the same style as the example card at the top of this page, and no other sponsor card appears anywhere on that page for the whole year. Exclusive means exclusive on that page only: it does not stop another business sponsoring a different page.
Title sponsorship
A title sponsor has the same large card in the same place, near the top of the page (the example at the top of this page shows the style), but shares the page with up to three supporting sponsors. Title sponsorships are offered on our busiest pages and in competitive categories, not on every page. If a page offers a title sponsorship, you will see both choices on its sponsor form, so you can decide between being alone on the page and sharing it for less.
Supporting sponsorship
A supporting sponsor has a smaller card in a row of up to three, after the page content and above the facts. Supporting sponsorships are available only on pages that have a title sponsor, so a supporting card always appears beneath a title sponsor and never on its own. If a page has no title sponsor yet, you can join the waiting list for that page and we will contact you when a supporting spot opens.
Renewing, and what happens when a sponsorship ends
- We will contact you within the 30 days before your year ends to ask whether you want to renew.
- If a sponsorship is not renewed in that time, it ends and the spot may be offered to another business or organization.
- When a title sponsorship ends, the page’s supporting sponsors have the first chance, for 14 days, to take the title spot. A supporting sponsor who upgrades gets a new full year as title sponsor from the day they pay, with a credit for the unused days of their supporting year. After 14 days the title spot is open to anyone.
How to sponsor a page
- Open the page you want to sponsor. If its spot is open, you may see a note inviting you to sponsor it. You can sponsor a page even when no note is shown: just tell us which page you have in mind.
- Click the card. Choose your kind of sponsorship (where the page offers a choice) and fill in the form with your contact details, your business address, and the name, website, logo and message you want on your card.
- We email you an invoice that you pay by credit card. We hold the spot for you while you arrange payment.
- When we have received and recorded your payment, your card goes live and your year begins.

About Aroostook.com
- Aroostook.com is the online home of Aroostook County, Maine: “Where The County Clicks.”
- It has a guide page for each community, a page for each of the four regions (the St. John Valley, Central Aroostook, Southern Aroostook and the North Woods), and guides to the outdoors in The County, with local weather on the pages.
- Every guide is written from facts that are checked against public sources, and the sources are listed on the page.
- It is run by Visual Heights Internet Technologies, which has been building websites for The County since 1995, when it launched its first site, Northern Maine Recreation (mainerec.com). We have held the Aroostook.com name since 1997.
Why sponsoring is worth it
- Your name where people are reading. People come to these pages to learn about a community, plan a trip outdoors, or find something local. Your card is the first thing they see.
- Local, not national. Every sponsor is a business or organization in Aroostook County, so visitors see their neighbors.
- One flat price for a whole year. There is no bidding, no charge per click and no surprise bill.
- Visitors reach you. Your card links to your website, so interest turns into a visit.
- You are not lost in a crowd. A page has one exclusive or title sponsor, and at most three supporting sponsors beneath.
- You shape the card. Your logo and your words, approved by us so it looks right.
- You help The County’s own website. Sponsors are what keep Aroostook.com free for everyone to use.
